I love photographing beach huts.
Especially at the end of the day when the light is low and intense.
Using funky angles can make these images more dynamic!
This shoot was part of a tourism commission in Devon.

I regularly run personal photography tuition sessions on the moors, by the river or on the beach.
This shot was taken by one of my students – copyright Andrew McCarthy.
Andrew used a 200mmm f2.8 lens to reduce depth of field / seperate me from the background and worked from a low angle to create the background and foreground that he wanted.
Great job Andrew – shame I’m not a better model!!!

This tourism image was shot from a very low angle – I was lying on my front on the beach! The low viewpoint gives power to the subject and this combined with the long lens created a “bigger” cliff background.

The venue, Lukesland gardens on the edge of South Dartmoor, Devon is so perfect for all types of photography and I’d recommend a visit if you’re a keen snapper with or without one of my workshops!

This week I have been using mixed lighting to balance interior and exteriors levels.
This shoot was for The National Trust and required lots of foreground lighting to reduce the contrast with the exterior.
I also lit the curtains – side on to show texture…

Commercial portraits can take on more of a contemporary, relaxed and informal style when the sitter is looking and interacting off camera.
This look is becoming very popular for company web profiles. Here are some examples…

Great fun photographing celeb chef Mitch Tonks and tasting his lovely seafood at this event to promote the Dartmouth Food Festival.

We were aboard the Golden Hind in Brixham Harbour and I got to climb up the rigging to the crow’s nest to get some overhead shots – I always wanted to do that!
