1 to 1 Photography Business Mentoring

for graduates and others starting out in the photography industry

I have mentored over 30 people since 2009 to help them establish the creative, technical and business skills for working as a freelance photographer. Being a photography graduate is only half way along the journey of making a living in the photography industry. You must also have a vision of what your brand is, know how to package and price your offering, promote it, satisfy your clients and get paid! Along with this, it is important to stay fresh, keep learning and balance your work and non-work life to stay physically and mentally healthy, motivated, happy and creative.

Having been in business as a self employed photographer since 2005 and with a previous career in marketing and sales, I have lots of experience of putting this into practice. My photography business has been my only source of income since 2005 and it has paid the bills and much more every month since then. I work with local, regional and national brands, providing high quality commercial photography, also shoot landscape photography and have past experience of weddings and family photography.

The photography business mentoring is tailored to your personal experience and career / business aims; everyone is different and the sessions can be applied to everything from a wedding photographer a landscape “tog” or to a corporate photography business. I have real-life experience and success in all of the topics I help with.

I also have several trusted partner business contacts which can provide services you may need when embarking on a photography business career, anything from web-design to accounts.

Topics which you can pick from are as follows:

  • Your creative vision (establishing direction based on you and your values)
  • Setting and reviewing goals and objectives.
  • Understanding your strengths and weaknesses and how they change and evolve.
  • Review of creative skills (understaning light, composition, tone, colour, timing and context).
  • Review of technical skills (foundation principals of photography and applying them creatively).
  • Workflow, post production and distribution.
  • Practical tuiton on any of the above.
  • How commissioned work differs from personal or uni work.
  • Understanding a brief.
  • Understanding of branding – business or personal and establishing your own brand style.
  • Researching your market, competition and opportunities.
  • Packaging and pricing.
  • Marketing planning.

During this initial session we will put together a plan of modules for your photography business mentoring.
