Being a commercial photographer in the rural South West of England is far more interesting, diverse and fun than working in the city! In the last month, I have had to do these unusual things during photo-shoots in Devon & Cornwall:
- Move a herd of cows from a product shoot.
- Balance expensive products on an ancient Cornish castle wall. - Remove and bury a dead mouse from a holiday cottage shoot.
- Shoot a fully dressed expensive bed on open moorland. - Use a 10kg weight to stop the camera blowing away in a gale on Dartmoor. - Clean seagull poo from a property shoot. - Change my trousers after low-angle-photographing a 4x4 car coming through a Devon river ford after lying to close to the edge! - Eat ice cream, fish 'n' chips and cream teas during a tourism shoot (so they weren't wasted!).
...I couldn't think of a better job than being a photographer in Devon :)
Structures in the Landscape
This project is a landscape photography project with a difference. I look at the relationships between man made structures in the landscape in which they stand. These structures, mostly in SW England span history from ancient archaeological stones to old light towers, abandoned mines right up to modern navigation markers.You may also be interested in my Quintessential Westcountry folio.

Aerial drone Photography throughout Devon & Cornwall
Tony Cobley Photography can provide high quality and safe aerial drone photography in South West England.
With expert qualified drone photographers who have commercial experience in shooting aerial views for businesses and even the BBC we can offer excellent quality and peace of mind. We offer full aerial drone photography in Devon, Cornwall and beyond for all commercial, PR, corporate, property and tourism projects and for land, site and property surveys.
We provide both stills photography and aerial video services for business, industry and the media. Drone pilots have full Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) qualifications. We work with 3 expert partner professionals whose drones are operated with the highest attention to safety.
Still images are shot as RAW files and post processed to high quality output levels consistent with the ground stills if combined. We have even produced an aerial stitch panorama montage from a drone!
Prices include all the relevant pre-planning and safety work that is required by the CAA and also any additional authorisation in relation to any local Air Traffic Control. There are cheaper options out there but be aware that very big fines and even prison sentences (including to the commissioning client) can be the result of negligent commercial drone operation.

Clinical Injury Photography Devon
I can provide professional clinical evidence photography for medico legal purposes in Devon and Cornwall. I have DBS disclosure, formal professional photography qualifications and work with discretion and sensitivity using high quality photography equipment and lighting. The aim is to represent the injury in a true and objective way, showing scale and context of the injuries at a time specified by the law firm, insurer or claimant. I am happy to be commissioned by law firms or their clients to help provide the best photographic evidence for their cases.Injury Photography Devon Technique
A neutral background is used with colour calibrated lighting and a lighting set up which shows texture without creating excessive shadow. Focal lens of lenses if selected to avoid misleading perspective and attention given to plane of focus and depth of field. Scale can be demonstrated through use of a rule positioned next to the injury, context can be shown with wider shots and if necessary, a headshot as proof of identity. Images are supplied within at most 2 to 3 working days in high and low resolution format on disk or via Dropbox link with license for unlimited print & web usage for unlimited time. Professional Isles of Scilly Photography
I am a regular visitor to the Isles of Scilly which are situated around 30 miles off the far tip of South West Cornwall in the Atlantic Ocean. Isles of Scilly photography is one of my favourite occupations!
There are five inhabited islands: St. Mary's, Tresco, St. Martin's, Bryher and St. Agnes and many uninhabited islands to explore. Not only are the entire Isles of Scilly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but only 2,200 people are lucky enough to call it home. So there are never crowds and there is always a laid back, friendly atmosphere filed with beautiful sights, sounds and fragrances.

Skyscape Photography Devon, Cornwall, Isles of Scilly & Channel Islands
I love watching the sky and seeing the mood change with different types of cloud and varying colours. From my base in Buckfastleigh I'm very close to Dartmoor and also to the coast so there are a great many "big sky" opportunities to capture for my in my Skyscape photography!
Here are some images taken at different times of the day and indeed different times of the year. Often the most dramatic skies happen at the beginning and end of the day and a day or so before a frontal system arrives. Weather fronts push warm air high up into the atmosphere, forming wispy cirrus clouds so high that they catch the sun after sunrise and reflect amazing colours from their ice particles.

Seascape Photography Devon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly
The coastline of Devon and Cornwall is truly world class in terms of its drama, unspoilt beauty and heritage. Photographing the Westcountry coastline is a great passion of mine and here are a selection of my favourite spots. I have also included some images from further afield. Devon River & Woodland Photography - Devon & Dartmoor
There are many beautiful rivers in the South Hams area of Devon which flow from Dartmoor, through ancient woodland, past rolling Devon hills, over estuaries and into the sea on the South Devon Coast. There are also some images from further afield including Wales. I enjoy capturing these rivers at their various stages in all of our amazing seasons. I live close to the River Erme and not too far from the Plym, Dart, Yealm and Teign - a beautiful collection of Devon rivers. There are so many opportunities here - from autumnal river woodland to frosty moorland cascades to a summer evening by the estuary.
