Personal Injury and Medical Photography in Devon & Cornwall:

I can provide professional patient photography for medico legal evidence purposes in Plymouth, Exeter, Devon and Cornwall and other parts of the South West.

I have been trained in medical photography by Dr William Anderson, FRCS, LLM, FFFLM, FBIPP in establishing a medical photography service.
I have a standard operating procedure (SOP) which can be sent to you.

I also have an enhanced DBS disclosure, full insurance, formal professional photography qualifications and I work with discretion and sensitivity using high quality photography equipment and lighting.

The aim is to represent the injury in an unbiased and objective way, showing scale and context of the injuries and as specified by the law firm, insurer or claimant.

I am happy to be commissioned by law firms or their clients to help provide the best patient photography evidence for their cases.

Patient Medical Photography, in Devon & Cornwall - Technique

A neutral background is used with colour calibrated equipment and a lighting set up which shows texture without creating excessive shadow. Focal lens of lenses if selected to avoid misleading perspective and attention given to plane of focus and depth of field. Sometimes a telephoto zoom lens is used if the patient isn't comfortable with proximity.

Scale can be demonstrated through use of a "Forensigraph" scale positioned next to the injury, context can be shown with wider shots and a headshot as proof of identity. Three type of patient photography are usually taken:

Overview / context image - to orientate / appreciate where on the body the injury is.

Close up image of the injury.

Close up image with a measure scale next to the injury.

If appropriate and patient is happy to do: Re enactment of position of injury.

Images are shot in RAW format, calibrated for colour etc then supplied within at most 2 to 3 working days in high and low resolution TIFF or JPEG format. The commissioning client (and their patent if required) receive images via download link with license for perpetual unlimited usage for unlimited time.

Patient privacy, space and dignity are always respected as is data protection. An impartial chaperone should be provided for photography of sensitive parts of the body and for under 18s. More details in my SOP.

Gloves and facemask are used during Covid and all scales etc are sanitised, backgrounds and gloves disposed of.

Prices are always bespoke, depending on the requirements and location. Please contact me for a quote and more details. You may also be interested in my commercial photography for medical & scientific clients.

Photography for medical and scientific clients is one of my favourite sectors. It is always nice to get feedback such as this from marketing professionals within medical & healthcare organisations:

“It is easy to believe that anyone can take a photo to support their marketing needs but it is only when you engage a professional such as Tony Cobley that you realise how wrong you have been. We have employed Tony Cobley to support our rebranding and updating of images for multiple use. Images have been used for web and social media but most importantly for editorial, advertising and production of promotional materials. It is then that you realise how important it is to have high quality, well thought out images to support you marketing needs. Tony Cobley’s professionalism makes working with him very easy and especially when working in a medical setting such as ours, professionalism, courtesy and respect is evident in Tony’s approach.”   Kathryn. Marketing & Comm's manager.

I can carry out medical and healthcare photography in Plymouth and Exeter and other areas of Devon & Cornwall.

I also do legal evidence photography and personal injury medical photography for law firms in Devon & Cornwall.

No matter what you are promoting, showing it with people is the way to go! I work on promotional photography in Devon on all sorts of varied marketing campaigns in South West England. These campaigns can be to promote services, products, spaces or even concepts for any organisation.

Things, Brands, Experiences, Situations

No matter what the “thing” to be promoted, showing people interacting with it will bring it to life and communicate how the potential customer would experience it. Many of my clients have brand guidelines which ask me to show what it feels like to experience their offering. “Lifestyle” photoshoots are the most obvious solution but similar human involvement can also happen in industrial situations, education environments and even close up details. Using just parts of a person such as hands can also bring photographs to life and provide scale and context.

Fewer Words, More Images

In the age of new media, the fewer words used, the better. Because we scroll through so much content and only stop when something catches our eye, images are initially more powerful than words. So images with people can describe a product or service without having to include lots of words.

Models?

When working as a photographer in Devon or wider afield, models for photoshoots come in many guises: Some clients hire professional models or extras, other use their own staff and some use volunteers or family and friends. I am experienced in working with all of these individuals, each requiring slightly different management on shoot.

"Happy Models Make for a good shoot!"

I like to work on the basis that “Happy models make for a good shoot” so it's always good to make sure they are relaxed, comfortable and fully aware of what’s happening.

Promotional Photography in Devon

A browse through the commercial photography folios on my website will show how people come in to most aspects of my commissioned work. See if you can guess who the people are and how they became involved in helping on the shoot. If you have an organisation with a brand to promote, I would be very pleased to discuss creative photography ideas for working with people to get your brand message out there. Tony

What does a Devon Commercial Photographer do During Lockdown?

Devon commercial photographer, Tony Cobley has been keeping busy during the Coronavirus lockdown. Between volunteering in his local community and the occasional safe home product photoshoot, Tony has also been providing virtual photography tuition for hobby snappers anywhere in the world via Zoom. He’s also giving free on line consultations with business owners and marketing professionals to discuss photography plans for the other side of lockdown. This week, Tony has done a product photo shoot for a new client in Devon. “Allies of Nature” are a start-up emotional wellbeing business making flower essences who have put lots of effort into their branding and design. They needed quality images to show off their brand across all marketing material and social media. Tony who is a location commercial photographer was able to build a studio at his home near Plymouth in South Devon to do the product shoot. This maintained maximum social distancing and he handled the products with gloves to be extra safe. Tony shot individual images of all 22 flower essence products and then made some creative group shots. Simon Blackler, owner of “Allies of Nature” was thrilled with the resulting images and said: “I have just downloaded all the pics, what an awesome photoshoot, looks like you had some fun!! Great group shots as well as the individual bottles. I couldn’t have asked for any more. I’m looking forward to showing off your fantastic work. Brilliant job, first class effort.” Tony is keen to talk to anyone involved in marketing about future plans for the other side of the current lockdown and offers free photography consultations via Zoom for business owners and marketing / comm's professionals. Royal Photography in the SW

I little while ago I had the pleasure of photographing HRH The Princess Royal in North Somerset. This was the second time I've photographed Princess Anne this year, documenting a royal visit to a local South West organisation. The visit was to the Butler Trust and the Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Community Rehabilitation Company where the princess met award winners and members of both organisations. Working to strict security, logistical and briefing guidelines, I managed to get some nice natural reportage images of the event which will be used by both organisations for public relations purposes. See more examples of my Events Photography in SW England including Royal Photography in the SW.
I have recently enjoyed working with with the superb Thrive Hubs on some contemporary business interior photography in Plymouth. Thrive Hubs offer very high quality office space including hot-desking and short term rental and Ocean Crescent, Plymouth is well worth a visit! Our photoshoot was to show the contemporary spaces, fully styles and with people. We used lots of professional lighting to show the space at its best and create fresh, dynamic, contemporary images. Variety

Working as a commercial photographer in Devon and Cornwall really does provide me with a varied and diverse working life; every day is very different! Although the purpose and the techniques are always similar, the subject matter and location environments can be assorted and very mixed. I meet lots of interesting people, go to places I never realised exist and learn about all sorts of organisations. I love my work.

Examples

Last month my work as a commercial photographer in the South West included: Antique chairs in a country house, a health & safety director in a petrol terminal, contemporary kitchen interiors, working portraits of trainees in a college, some corporate business headshots, product images of horse riding boots and an aerial drone shoot of a school!

Environments & People

The environments for these locations are all so different - from industrial docks in Plymouth, to a rural Dartmoor home, to a factory in Cornwall, to a large college campus, to a modern office complex. And the people involved can be anyone from trainee to CEO - all fascinating in their own way. So I never get bored or tired with my work and the people I work with.

Common Links?

The common link to all of these apparently different commercial photography projects (other than Devon & Cornwall) is that we are capturing brands. All of my work is for marketing & communications purposes, commissioned by marketing professionals or business owners. So my job is to create images which use the environment, the people and the subject matter to give power and reality to a marketing campaign.

Where do the Images End Up?

The petrol terminal images will end up in an annual report, the headshots on a website team page, the kitchens in a brochure, the boots on an e-commerce site and the trainees in an apprentice event promo poster and social media. Just a few examples of different ways to use images as marketing assets.

I have lots of experience of construction photography in Devon & Cornwall. I regularly photograph for construction contractors, house builders, surveyors and architects in South west England. Sometimes the shoots are to create marketing images of finished sites and sometimes of the site in progress. The completed site images are good for general marketing for the builder or designer and the photography viewpoints, angles, and weather are careful considered. Photography is also valuable during the construction process. These images can show the procedures, skills and processes of construction and also provide a story of the progress of the site. I am sometimes hired to produce monthly images of a site each month for the whole build process and my clients find these images very good for social media promotion of the scheme. You can see more images of my industrial, technical and construction photography in Devon & Cornwall here.
